Dan Burn Sidelined With Spinal Injury
Newcastle United defender, Dan Burn, is facing time on the sidelines after suffering a debilitating injury during his side’s English Premier League match against Arsenal last Saturday, 4 November.
In the midst of an aerial challenge, the 31-year-old Englishman landed awkwardly on his back, resulting in his spine being injured.
Following the match – which Newcastle won 1-0 – head coach Eddie Howe provided an official update on Burn’s condition.
“Unfortunately, Dan will be out for some time,” said Howe. “It could be a couple of months … He landed on his spine; I think he has got a problem with the base of his spine. It is a big blow for us.
“He has been gigantic for us since he signed, for a lot of different reasons. His character, his determination, his experience and versatility, too – so, it is not just one position we are losing.”
The injury comes as a huge blow to the English club, which is also without left-back Matt Targett and centre-back Sven Botman, both of whom are currently out with injuries.
Newcastle are set to take on Borussia Dortmund tonight, Tuesday 7 November, in a UEFA Champions League clash at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany.
